UOB Visa Signature Review (2026): The S$1,000 Catch

Truffle's Take
Situational

Superb if you clear S$1,000 in one category every month, and close to pointless if you do not.

Two 4 mpd buckets, each with a minimum spend that pays nothing at all when you miss it. That condition decides everything.

New to miles?

This card pays in UNI$, and UNI$1 is worth 2 airline miles. "4 mpd" means every S$1 of qualifying spend earns 4 miles. The unusual part is the minimum: spend below it in a category and that category pays the base rate instead, not a reduced bonus.

TLDR

Two separate 4 mpd buckets, one for overseas and foreign currency, one for contactless and petrol. Each is capped at S$1,200 a month, so a heavy spender can earn on S$2,400 of spend, which is more headroom than almost anything else at this price.

The condition is the whole card. Each bucket needs S$1,000 of spend in that bucket, in that statement month, before it pays anything above base. Not a reduced rate. Base. Miss by a dollar and the entire category earns 0.4 mpd.

Get it if

  • You reliably spend over S$1,000 a month overseas or in foreign currency
  • Or you tap for more than S$1,000 of everyday spend every single month
  • You want headroom: S$2,400 of bonus spend is a lot at this fee

Look elsewhere if

  • Your spending is uneven month to month
  • You want a card you never have to think about
  • You fill up at SPC or Shell, which are excluded from the petrol bonus

What does it cost to hold?

S$218 a year, waived for the first year, and usually waived after that on regular use.

The second-year figure is aggregator-sourced: UOB rewards cards commonly list S$196.20 and no official page confirmed S$218. Treat it as approximate and check before renewal. Late payment and interest are unrelated to the annual fee and still apply.

UOB is among the more reliable banks for a waiver on regular use, so in practice this is closer to a free card than the sticker suggests. It is still a card that asks you to make a phone call once a year, which the HSBC Revolution does not.

What do I get for signing up?

There is usually an offer, and applying through a comparison site typically pays more than the bank’s own page.

Same card, same approval, same credit check, different reward. It is the cheapest mistake on this page to avoid.

UOB Visa Signature card

UOB Visa Signature

Welcome bonus
S$95Cash via PayNow

Requires S$500 of spend within the first 30 days of card approval.

The same promotion runs flash tiers worth more, including Dyson Airstrait straightener at S$799 and Cash via PayNow at S$400, but those go to the first few applicants at a set time each day. Nearly everyone receives the reward above.

Sign-up rewards might change, so confirm the current offer before you apply. New customers only, meaning no card from UOB in about the last 12 months.

Read this before you apply

Sign-up offers move monthly and almost always carry a "new to bank" condition, meaning no UOB card in the past 12 months. Closing a card to re-qualify usually costs more than the bonus is worth. Check the minimum spend and the window before you apply, not after.

How many miles do I earn?

4 miles per dollar in either bucket, but only once that bucket clears S$1,000 in the statement month.

Correct as of 5 August 2026. Always confirm on UOB’s own page before applying.

Contactless and petrol4.0 mpdS$1,000S$1,200 / month
Everything else, or a missed minimum0.4 mpdnoneUncapped

The two buckets are independent. Clearing one does not help the other, and a month where you spend S$900 in each earns base on all S$1,800 of it. That is the failure mode to design around, and it is far more common than people expect.

Where do people lose the bonus?

At the S$1,000 line, in a statement month that is not the calendar month they were counting.

This is the section that matters on this card. There is no clever routing to discuss, because UOB closed those doors. What there is instead is a threshold that quietly turns 4 mpd into 0.4, and three ways people walk into it.

The same S$1,000 of contactless spend, one dollar apart.
Contactless spend in the periodRateMiles
S$9990.4 mpd400
S$1,0004.0 mpd4,000

One dollar is worth 3,600 miles at the threshold. That is not a loophole, it is just reading the terms. If you are close to the line late in the period, deliberately topping up is worth more than any other optimisation on this card, and it is the only "play" it really has.

Correct as of 5 August 2026.

What does not work here

Atome earns no bonus UNI$ on UOB cards: the catch-all clause covering payment service providers is applied to BNPL, and customer service confirms it. Amaze has been blocked on every UOB card since 2024. If you have read about either route working, it was not on this card.

What earns nothing at all?

Utilities, insurance and education are excluded outright, on top of the minimum-spend condition.

Exclusions per the UOB Visa Signature T&Cs.

How do I turn points into miles?

5,000 UNI$ to 10,000 miles, at S$27 a conversion, and the points expire in two years.

UNI$ pool across every UOB card you hold, which is genuinely useful if you carry more than one: a stranded balance on one card can be swept with another. The expiry is the tighter constraint here. Two years from the end of the earning quarter sounds generous until you notice the transfer minimum.

Ratios are the same across partners. Correct as of 5 August 2026.

What should I pair it with?

Something with no minimum, so a quiet month still earns.

The gap on this card is not a category, it is a condition. What it needs alongside it is a card that pays on whatever you spend, however little of it there is.

The verdict, restated

A specialist that pays extremely well for a specific pattern of spending and close to nothing outside it. If you can put your hand on your heart and say you clear S$1,000 in one of these buckets every month, S$2,400 of bonus spend at this fee is hard to beat. If you cannot, the months you miss cost you far more than the months you hit are worth.

5 Aug 2026Reviewed against the card T&Cs checked 27 July 2026. Confirmed Atome earns no bonus and Amaze remains blocked on all UOB cards.
1 Oct 2024Amaze added to UOB’s descriptor exclusions, ending that route on every UOB card.

UOB Visa Signature Card T&Cs, checked 27 July 2026, and the UOB Visa Signature product page. Rates, fees and caps correct as of 5 August 2026. The second-year annual fee is aggregator-sourced at S$218 and was not confirmed on an official page. The petrol bonus excludes SPC and Shell, so drivers using those chains will earn less than the headline rate suggests. This guide shares my own experience for education, it is not financial advice, and card terms change: always verify with the bank before applying.
